Fairways, Friendships, and Finding Balance – by Chuck Swetland

Golf has always been a big part of my life. I’m fortunate to be a member at Kenosha Country Club and to spend time on the course with friends, partners, and community leaders. This summer was no exception: I had the chance to tee it up at several outings that support some incredible organizations, including the Kenosha YMCA, Boys & Girls Club of Kenosha, Kenosha Area Chamber of Commerce, Harborside Academy, the University of Wisconsin-Parkside sports programs, and even the Milwaukee Police Association.

Each event was more than just a round of golf. It was about connecting with people, supporting important causes, and enjoying the spirit of competition in the Wisconsin sunshine. And if you’re a golfer, you know that sometimes the best conversations happen between shots or while waiting on the tee box.

Golf and Technology: Surprisingly Similar

When you think about it, golf and technology have something in common. Both require patience, practice, and a plan. In golf, you work on your swing, your short game, and your mental focus. In technology, especially in the work we do at Platinum Systems, it’s about strategy, alignment, and constant improvement. Neither is ever “finished” because there’s always room to grow, refine, and get better.

Staying on Course, Even When Away

One of the challenges of being out on the course so often is keeping up with what’s happening back at the office. That’s where technology makes life easier. Tools like Microsoft Copilot allow me to catch up on missed meetings with a single click, get a quick recap of key decisions, and even draft a follow-up message before I’m done cleaning my clubs.

It’s kind of like having a reliable caddie: someone who helps you keep your head in the game, reminds you of the big picture, and makes sure you don’t forget the little details. With technology, you don’t have to feel like you’re “falling behind” just because you spent the afternoon supporting a great cause on the golf course.

Community First

The best part of this summer wasn’t about the drives that found the fairway or the putts that dropped (although those are always worth celebrating). It was about showing up for the organizations that do so much for our community and having the chance to represent Platinum Systems in a way that goes beyond business.

At the end of the day, golf is a game, technology is a tool, but people are what matter most. I’m grateful to have spent the summer combining all three.
